The Abilene Pipers were founded February 2001. Robert Partin along with Iain Morrison, Grant Rice and Daniel Fryar started the group after Robert and Iain met at the second Abilene Burns Supper. Grant was a friend of Iain's and Daniel was a student at ACU that Iain had met. Iain and Grant were transferred out of Abilene by the USAF. Daniel graduated from ACU and now works and lives in Colorado. Upon their departure, Luke Senter, Charles Rice and Linda Penman came along to rescue the group. They have been meeting weekly and performing together since 2002 and have seen old members and students come and go, but are slowly growing. The Pipers are very excited to have recently added a group of drummers and a couple of new piper students from area law enforcement.

The Abilene Pipers have performed at local weddings, funerals, Burns Suppers, Art Walk, The Erinshire Folk Festivals, church services, Hawley Parade, Vietnam Wall Experience in September of 2003, Fallen Texas Police Officers Memorial, Sayles Neighborhood Association Parties, 2005 Blues N Rock Gazette Readers Choice Award Show, 2005 De Leon Peach and Melon Festival, Brownwood Lyric Theatre's production of Brigadoon, Shriner's Potentate Ball, Abilene Derby Dames St. Patrick's Smash, 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum's VietNam Memorial, Dyess AFB Burns Suppers, Hamlin Pied Piper Homecoming, Sweetwater's WASP Museum Memorial, Former Texas Ranger Memorials, Sons of the American Revolution Memorials, Dyess AFB 7th Bomb Wing Memorial Day Service, Elmwood Memorial Park's Memorial Day Services, birthday parties, etc...
